Mary-Jane Duffy finds a great haul...
There
is no doubt that designer Scott Kilmartin is clever. His range of
stylist products are testament to his design capabilities, but what's
more impressive are the materials from which he creates his bags &
accessories.
Kilmartin converts old billboard vinyl, numberplates, and truck tyre inner-tubes into a range of products including laptop sleeves, messenger bags & purses.
Having always been interested in design, Kilmartin took his passion and
launched the aptly named design outfit haul, meaning to carry.
Kilmartin's inspiration comes from his urban surrounds and old manufacturing factories, and it shows in his work.
"I've always been drawn to the industrial, and turning something old into something new appealed," he says.
"I like that in the materials that I use, because it means every product is a little different."
Different is certainly one way to describe Kilmartin's work, although many have coined it environmentally-conscious street wear. One of his most popular products is his range of laptop sleeves made from the used PVC vinyl from advertising billboards. Now advertisers can sell a space and buy it back converted into a cool new look."
